More sound advice for effective blogging

Writing for MarTechAdvisor, a marketing technology news website, Rohit Roy offered advice that is applicable to all bloggers.

He suggested bloggers should identify their audience, take some deeper dives into topics, write in a conversational tone, used mixed media and use links and cited reports to add credibility.

Identifying your audience is the obvious first step. There is the difference between the audience you want and the audience you actually draw.

“The internet is a free place,” he wrote, “and if you are tackling a controversial subject in your post, make sure that sensitive audiences will not take it negatively.”

Bloggers must walk that line between offering quantity of posts and quality posts. Mere quantity can seem like clutter or noise.

“If you have the acumen to turn a quick take of 600 words into a detailed and explanatory read of 3,000 words or more,” he wrote, “you may just connect with audiences, who feel you care about your work and them.”

Roy recommended giving readers a story or a journey, not a lecture. “You will find that talking with or to audiences will yield more success than talking at them in a ‘know-it-all’ tone,” he wrote.

Photos, illustrations, audio and video spice up blogs and create a more pleasing experience. Providing supporting links and citing reports helps you build the credibility to bring readers back for more.
